Living Room - Washington Street

This living room had beautiful light with its large bay window, but the room was very much isolated from the rest of the apartment. It was closed-off from the dining room by a walled-in doorway. There was also a wall with two doors on it separating the living room from the hallway, across from which was a door into the kitchen. We not only opened the doorway into the dining room, but we also did away with the walls on the interior side of the room, facing the kitchen. The result was an open, airy and bright space open to the kitchen. It made the room feel much larger, and that beautiful light could be enjoyed from the kitchen as well. The old brick fireplace had also been encased, but we removed the wall that covered it, exposing the old brick. This also made the room feel bigger, because we could hang the television and keep the other electronics on the built-in bookcase that we added, so that none of that sort of thing took up any space in the footprint of the room.
