Front Door & Siding - Maddy Lane
Changing out the front door was one of the first steps in the process of redesigning the front of the house. While the old door was nice, it was not centered on the house, and it did not let in quite enough light. The new wooden door with sidelights, not only brings more light into the living room, but it starts to bring some more symmetry to the front of the house. The wooden finish also goes well with the newly installed clapboard siding and cedar shakes.
In general, the old cedar siding that was on the house was very much in need of replacing. When choosing what finishes we wanted to go with, we decided to do a couple different treatments. We loved the classic clapboard in a warm white for the front, back and dormer. And then for the gable ends of the house, we decided to pay homage to the original Cape Cod/ New England style that this house has by putting natural cedar shakes on those sides. The result is a nice mix of classic materials that we think helps the home extra visual interest.
